DPS Durgs two day Sports Day 2024 celebrations began on 17th December and culminated, on 18th December 2024, amidst great mirth, verve and camaraderie. The honble Chief Guest on 18th December, 2024 was, Shri Kedar Kashyap, Minister of Forest & Climate Change, Govt. of Chhattisgarh. Our Guests of honour were esteemed Dr. Sunil Jogi, Poet, Author & recipient of Padma Shri and Yash Bharti awards. Dr. Hariom Panwar, Poet of eminence & Ex-Dean, Faculty of Law, CCS University, Meerut. Other eminent dignitaries included Dr. Himanshu Dwivedi, Pro – Vice Chairman, DPS Durg, Editor in Chief, Hari Bhoomi, Shri H.S. Batra and Mr. Satwik Sindhu, members Managing Committee DPS Durg, Mr. Saurabh Batra, and Principal Mr. Yashpal Sharma, accompanied by Senior Master Mr. R.C. Dwivedi, Academic Coordinators and Incharges.
The Principal extended a formal welcome with saplings to the esteemed Chief Guest and dignitaries and shared a brief report of the Schools Sports activities and achievements of students. This was entailed by the unfurling of the School Flag and declaration of the Meet Open by the Chief Guest, Shri Kedar Kashyap, followed by the lighting of the flame by the Schools Sports Secretaries and releasing of balloons, and DPS Durg banner, to mark the expression of joy and merriment.
The Chief Guest accompanied by the dignitaries and the Principal inspected the School and House Appointment Contingents and subsequently took the Salute of the spectacular and well- synchronized March Past by the four House Contingents of the Senior Wing students rendering the parent spectators, speechless and awestruck.
Thereafter, the Chief Guest administered Oath to the School Appointments. The most intriguing aspect, adorning the event was the message oriented field Display based on the theme “DPS Durg – Faster, Stronger, Higher, Together”, involving mass student participation which splattered on the field, a riot of hues and vivacity. The displays included “Focus, Patiently & Steadily to meet the target” by Classes VI – VIII boys and “Celebrating Diverse & Progressive India” for Classes VI to VIII Girls.
This entailed Track Events including six 100mts races and Four 4 × 100mts Relays. A Race for Parents & Teachers was also conducted. In the subsequent Prize Distribution, the Winners of various events were given medals, trophies and certificates by the Chief Guest.
The Best Athlete Boy of Classes VI to VII was Tanishq Dhruw, Vindhya House and the Best Athlete Girl was Aadya Tiwari, Aravalli House. The Best Athlete Boy of classes VIII & IX was Adarsh Agrawal, Aravalli House and the Best Athlete Girl was Riya Deshmukh Vindhya House. The Best Athlete Boy for classes X to XII was Shaurya Soni, Nilgiri House and the Best Athlete Girl was Aastha Sahu, Shivalik House.
Dr. Sunil Jogi in his address, was full of appreciation of the Sports Day 2024, stating that the hard work of teachers and students is quite evident.
Dr. Hariom Panwar stated that the students were very fortunate to study in a school like DPS Durg.
Dr. Himanshu Dwivedi appreciated the school for putting up a spectacular show.
The Chief Guest Shri Kedar Kashyap, lauded the programme in superlatives and stated that he was elated to see that the school has presented classy displays which were traditional & exhibited the nations cultural heritage.
The Aravalli House was adjudged the Best House, in the March Past and the overall Best House in sports events as well. The zealous parents, gathered in large numbers, constantly applauded the participants of the Field & track displays. In the Closing Ceremony, the Meet was declared closed and the School Flag was handed over to the Principal, after a Slow March, by the Senior Sports Secretaries. The lit flame was put off with the Beating of the Retreat.
The event was shaped by the Physical Education Department, headed by Mr. Gagan Inder Singh Virdee who also proposed Vote of Thanks.
The programme was co-ordinated and compered by Ms. Zohra Husain, Incharge Activities, Middle and Senior Wing and the smart student anchors of the Field Displays were Sharanya Gupta & Aayan Jaiswal.
The Meet saw its culmination with the National Anthem.
